He has created suggested itineraries of various lengths to guide travellers, as well as regional itineraries for those wishing to focus on just one area. It is THE BEST tourist site available!
We wouldn’t have known where to start if we hadn’t had Lap of Tasmania to plan our trip. Best info ever! I highly recommend the links and accommodation reviews. Even has discounts!
The advice from Lap of Tasmania was invaluable in arranging our 3 month trip and the itineraries were very helpful. The discounts were amazing – we used them for caravan parks and a river cruise. The Facebook page is also brilliant and has so much helpful advice.
Lap of Tasmania has by far the most informative information and advice I have ever read, as I had no idea how to plan our trip. I downloaded his eBook which was so helpful. Thank you Andrew!
As semi regular visitors, Lap of Tasmania keeps us up to date with the going’s on, and discount partners we might like to try. I love the monthly newsletter covering a vast range of topics. I recommend the website to everyone we know coming to Tasmania so they can plan their own holiday!

Here are answers to the most common questions I receive from Lappers…
There is no doubt that a Lap of Tasmania is one of the world’s premier road trips.
Ancient rainforests? Quirky Tasmanian devils? Gourmet paddock-to-plate dining? Rich colonial history? Exciting world-class festivals? It’s got the lot, and it’s all within easy driving distance!
Tasmania is a compact island, and the short distances between destinations mean that a self-drive road trip is the perfect way to experience everything it has to offer.
The official route is 1,500km long, and using the free tips and advice provided on this website it is easy for you to create a holiday itinerary that ticks all your ‘must see’ boxes, while staying on time and budget.

My answer to this question is always, “As long as you’ve got!”
Campers and caravanners often have the luxury of time, and if that’s you then I’d be trying to stay at least 3 months.
At the same time, most of us have less than 4 weeks leave per year, and that’s where Tassie really shines!
Its small size means that even with a few days, or a couple of weeks, you can still see Tassie’s best bits.
My free itineraries have you got you covered, with options ranging from 5-days all the way up to an epic 3-week itinerary. Most cover the entire island, while others focus on specific regions – there is bound to be one that suits your needs.

Bringing your own vehicle on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry is a fantastic option for a Tassie road trip. There are no luggage restrictions, and it means you can experience your Tassie road trip adventures in a vehicle that you know and love.
On the other hand, many travellers prefer to maximise their time on the island by flying to Tasmania and picking up their rental vehicle on arrival. There are plenty to choose from and my free comparison guides will help you choose the best options for your style of travel and budget.
This is a tough one to answer, because there are so many variables – peak or low season, fly or catch the ferry, free-camps or high-end hotels, self-catering vs dining out every meal, and so many more options…
To help visitors to work out their costs, I created a free Holiday Cost Calculator – it is a great place to start.
Campers & Caravanners
My Camping & Caravanning eBook covers this in a lot more detail, but if you plan on camping your way around Tasmania for 4 weeks or longer then there are three budgets that tend to cover most types of traveller:
Car & B&B/Hotel
My Tasmania Road trip Planner eBook covers this in more detail – including a free Budget Planner spreadsheet – but if you plan on renting a car and staying in B&Bs, hotels and/or apartments for 2 weeks during peak season, then your budget will probably vary between $2,500 and $3,500 per week.
There are too many to list them all, but the ‘Big 12’ are the twelve places in Tasmania that I personally feel you simply can’t miss.
To make things easy for you I have carefully designed the main route of the Lap of Tasmania, and my ‘loop’ itineraries, to take you to each of these iconic locations.

Tasmania isn’t a cheap destination to visit, and that is why I have reached out to Tassie’s best tourism businesses to seek their help in keeping your costs as low as possible.
Click here to discover the many discounts and other special offers that I have negotiated on behalf of Lappers just like you.
Depending on the length of your holiday, they could easily save you $’000s!
Short answer – everyone!
All you need is a sense of adventure to fall in love with a Tasmania road trip.
Whether it is a slow journey of exploration, a luxury indulgence with no expense spared, or a road trip full of excitement and outdoor adventures… this iconic Tasmanian road trip has something for everyone.
I’ve had fantastic feedback from all walks of life – grey nomads in search of tranquility, executives seeking escape from the business hustle, solo female travellers, and parents wanting to inspire a sense of adventure in their children.
No matter who you are or where you come from, memories of your Lap of Tasmania will last a lifetime.
